Christmas is quite possibly my favourite holiday of the year. I like Valentines day but it always falls on a day when hubby is on call so it is always low key. Easter is fun to do egg hunts but its really a kiddy occasion. I love halloween but Christmas really is brilliant.
I think its the lead up to it, thinking of gifts to give loved ones. Wondering what will be waiting for you under the tree and now this year me and hubby get to start our own family traditions.
Now, we have the most un-traditional tree topper in the form of Jack Skeleton from Nightmare before Christmas. I tried to get hubby to retire poor Jack whilst Ben is growing up but he wont have it. There will not be a star or a pretty angel on the top of the tree instead we will stick to this:
One thing I love is snuggling on the sofa, watching christmas movies. I love Scrooged with Bill Murray and try to watch that most years but there are also others that are more family friendly because at the end of the day, Christmas is about spending time with your loved ones. (Yes I know its meant to be to celebrate Jesus Christ’s birthday, but apparently he was born in September yet its celebrated in December???).
So I will compile a list of films I will try to get Ben to watch and if I fail it is movies he will watch when he gets older. I also have a list of films I really didnt like; however am willing to try again to see if Ben likes it.
1) Now Christmas isnt the same without a channel showing Home alone. If I need to explain this story to you, then you’ve clearly been living in the stone ages for the past 25 years but here is is. Little Kevin MacCallister gets accidentally left at home by his family when they go away for Christmas. The film splits between the family struggling to get back home and Kevin battling against two burglers to save his home.
2) Home alone 2 is another firm favourite, not only is it due to the fact that I want to go to a toy shop like the one in this movie, but the fact that as a kid I had the talkboy and i have a memory of my older brother taping me swearing to show my mum (it backfired as he got bollocked for entrapment) – i do digress though.
3) Nightmare before Christmas – This is Halloween, this is halloween, halloween halloween halloweeeeeeeeeen – er…. no it isnt? I love Nightmare. I love Santy Claws, just everything about it is just wow! It may be a bit too old for Ben but we’ll see how he gets on.
4) The muppets Christmas carol – me and hubby love the muppets. We have so many movies and DVDs and this is probably one of the best (other than the Jason Segal movie – maniachol laugh)
5) Jingle all the way – Who doesnt love the era when Schwarznegger did family friendly movies? Twins and Junior anyone? Well he also did this movie which is about finding his son this action man type doll. It’s Christmas junk at its finest!
6) Ernest saves Christmas – I don’t really remember much about this movie, but what I do remember is that I loved it and found it hilarious! For this purpose alone, it is only my list and one I cannot wait to watch to see if I still find it that funny
7) Santa clause – Tim Allen during Home Improvement, just before Buzz; basically a rip off of the next movie in my list if I remember rightly?
8) Santa clause the movie – ahhh Dudley Moore, the guy who Phoebe thought Monica was talking about when she asked for a haircut in Friends. This film is an oldie – not as old as Its a Wonderful Life, however it is still a classic. I have many memories of watching this at my Nan’s in the lead up to Christmas Day.
Films I don’t like but will try again for Ben:
1) The Grinch – the only good thing about this movie is Taylor Momsen from The Pretty Reckless and more commonly known as Jenny from Gossip Girl. That is seriously about it. Jim Carrey is pretty creepy in the movie and just. Nope it doesn’t do it for me.
2) Elf – I have a massive thing against Will Ferrell. I love the premise of this movie, but i think had they cast someone else i may have actually liked it more? Im willing to give it another go as I feel like I should like it.
3) Polar express – I love the idea of this. I love that Tom Hanks is involved, I just couldn’t get into it!
4) A Christmas carol – There must be something with me and not liking Jim Carrey Christmas movies. This recent movie and another rehash of a classic Dickens tale is pretty shoddy. The only good thing is Kate Winslett’s single “what if”
Do you have any favourite Christmas movies? Do you have any you just can’t get on with watching?
Watching Home Alone is like a Christmas tradition:D I can’t imagine Christmas without that movie

I really enjoy switching on Christmas 24 and watching all the cheesy budget Christmas films that never made it to the cinema! I’m not a huge fan of the Blockbusters.
I do however have an amazing early memory of going to the cinema – I must have been 3 – and it was to see Santa Claus The Movie. Santa was HUGE on that big screen to little 3 year old me and I can remember it being so magical. Christmas is such a lovely time of year. #pocolo

You know what, I don’t like Jim Carry in Christmas movies too:). Buut what would be Christmas if there hadn’t been Home alone movies? Classic! You know, what I would add? It’s romantic, me and my husband watch it every Christmas – Family man. No matter how many times I’ve seen it I still cry at the end!;)xx #GlobalBlogging

I love watching the Hallmark Channel during Christmas time. My kids adore The Grinch, they even have a classroom theme dedicated to it. So right now it’s kind like Peppa Pig to me… I’ll be happy to only watch it again next year :)! Great list! Home Alone is a definite must see!! Thanks for sharing! #globalblogging
