Over the past few weeks as I have been building my blog, I have been thinking of something to be mine. Some people host linky’s but I’m not established enough for that yet. I was wracking my brains for something special that people can say “oh yeah, she does that!”
I decided last week to do a weekly #WCW (Woman Crush Wednesday) but these are to be women who have children or are women who have shown a maternal instinct etc. I started off with self love and put myself forward. On yet another low day the response of parents liking my post made me feel empowered and I knew I had made the right choice.
Having made Posh Spice my second #WCW, it lit a light bulb in my head and a new blog post idea struck.
The media surrounds famous people nowadays (I wont say celebrities as reality tv contestants are swarmed for their 20 minutes of fame also). Some people manage to keep their kids out of the press, others seem too push them into the limelight. Whether I agree with it or not, it is hard to live a normal family life when you’re on TV, in the music industry or in the Movies.
Family values and the image of that fairytale happily ever after is something I hold high in my life and therefore I have put together a top five (no first or last place) of mums and dads in the spotlight who I personally feel are doing a great job in raising the next generation.
1) Victoria Beckham – Mrs Beckham is not only stunning, she has a hot bloke, gorgeous kids and runs a successful business. Every time she is interviewed she seems so down to earth and her children seem to know where their careers lie and for that she must be parenting right!
2) Gwen Stefani – She keeps her private life just that. Apart from the recent infedelity stories by her ex, you dont really hear a peep about her other than her professional work. I admire people like this as it shows you dont need to let cameras into every aspect of your life just to get some air time.
3) Reese Witherspoon -She has kids with her ex and dealt with her divorce publicly very well. There was that incident where she was caught drunk by the police but other than that, she is a squeaky clean Southern Belle. Her eldest daughter is her spitting image yet she allows her to dye her hair and find her own personality through her looks.
4) Michelle Williams – If memory serves well, although she wasn’t with Matilda’s dad, Heath Ledger, at the time of his death. Dealing with her childs fathers demise in such a public way proves how remarkable she is. She has managed to grieve privately and continued raising their child in the same way.
5) Pink – I love Pink, she has never been one to take herself seriously. Although her private life is just that, she lets the public know enough to keep them interested. Her on-again-off-again husband and child also keep quiet and they appear to be able to raise her quietly and without the glare of paparazzi in their faces.
1) David Beckham – Oh David, you have it all. Football skills, money, looks and appear to be the perfect dad. Through documentaries and interviews he has an amazing bond with his kids and it makes him more endearing.
2) Neil Patrick Harris – all im saying is their family Halloween photos. This Leg-end-dary dad just comes across as the cutest ever and a complete far cry from his character in HIMYM.
3) Chris Hemsworth – I’m not a major fan of Chris, more a Liam and Miley fan. However, everytime I read something about him he is always praising his wife and telling people how gorgeous she is. This is what every mum wants, their bloke telling the world how great she is. No bigger confidence boost than that!
4) Ryan Reynolds – His sense of humour on Twitter is highly amusing, yet his charity work and love for his wife and children shines though. For someone who comes across as a bit of a player in his older movies, he has definately grown up and I love his quick witted comments.
5) Freddie Prinze Jr – Having retired from acting, he started to write for WWE (yay). He seems to have taken a back step from the limelight to allow his mrs, Buffy Summers, the hotspot. Both of them hide their kids faces and again, I love this. Yet another example of how just because you’re “famous” does not mean that your kids need to be splashed all over the internet.
I am disappointed that there is a lack of British parents who are largely known for their great parenting skills, at 11pm last night I was struggling to find any off the top of my head. However I do a bit of Fearne Cotton and Holly Willobooby ;-p
Who do you think is a great parent? Comment below 🙂
Some great examples – I’m struggling to think of many British ones too – definitely made me think! #ablogginggoodtime

OMG I have no idea about celebrities and would have to look half of these up. Maybe there are not so many British examples as the British press tend to delight in knocking people off their pedestals.Thank you for linking up to #ablogginggoodtime 🎉

I hate the British press for being so pessimistic, they always praise and put down at the same time!

2 brits that I like are Fern cotton (she doesn’t photo her children) and Cherry Healy who’s honest book and documentaries makes me far too excited.

Aw, this is such a lovely post! I don’t really follow celebs much so I would be really struggling to come up with people, and even worse if they all had to be Brits, lol. I do love Neil Patrick Harris’ Halloween photos though – #familygoals! 😀 #PoCoLo

I think Ferne and Holly are the only British parents that I can think of that seem very family orientated. We need more British family role models lol.

I think I admire the big name (I’m talking A list celebs) the most when someone tells me ‘oh, *name* has 2 kids etc’ and I can honestly respond with ‘Wow, I didn’t know anything about them!’ because it shows just how private they are, which usually means a more normal and relaxed upbringing for the kids! #fortheloveofBLOG

As far as British parents go I LOVE the Fletchers! Their Instagram posts are loving, funny and honest! MrsGFletcher isn’t afraid to post a knackered selfie without makeup on and Tom’s obvious adoration of his kids is amazing to see. Lovely post and good luck with the blog (from a fellow sort of newbie blogger!) #KCACOLS #PicknMix #fortheloveofBLOG

How did I not think of them? I’ve loved them ever since I saw their wedding speech video and then their two videos announcing pregnancies! I do love them both!!!!

Great post, I agree that these all do a great job of keeping their kids out of the limelight as much as possible. I also have a huge crush on Ryan Reynolds so it’s always nice to see his pic in a post x

How about Kate Winslet as a British example? She has been through divorce but there’s no public slanging matches and I have no idea what her children look like. She’s all business and a great strong, female role model. #KCACOLS

Some good choices there, I think Victoria Beckham gets a lot of flak but you can tell she’s a great mum behind the scenes, I’m not sure who I would add to it to be honest. #thatfridaylinky

This is such a good idea! I don’t know much about some of these celebrities so its nice to see a little more. I agree about the Beckhams and Gwen Sefani. I sadly can’t think of any British parents off the top of my head but I’m not very big on celebrities which is probably why, rather than that there aren’t any.

I think Holly Willoughby seems lovely but I worry that we don’t know everything about their lives and there are so many ordinary women and families doing a fabulous job too 🙂

I always try not to compare to celebs as I imagine they have nannies, cleaners and such like so life is incredibly different.

Having previously worked with her for a number of years, I can say Myleene Klass is a very hard worker and brilliant role model for her two girls, she’s dealt with a lot publicly but everything she does is to build a tight family unit and a secure future for her daughters. #bigpinklink

I also massively respect those A List stars that seem to be keeping it very real where raising their children is concerned. Holly Willoughby was also the first UK mum that jumped into my mind, but I think Davina McCall is another inspirational parent too. Great post – you’ve got me thinking now! #MarvMondays x

Great points here and some great celeb choices. I have to say I have most respect for people who keep their children out of the limelight. The patriotic British example would have to be Will and Kate! #kcacols

Great post! Id have to say I’d agree with these celeb choices. I think Holly would be a good addition to the list, along with Kate and Wills as someone else has suggested. I’m sure if we had a good think about it we might find one or two others that we’ve overlooked (I would hope!). Anyway, I like the sentiment of your post so thanks for sharing it on #MarvMondays.
